WELCOME TO GSU CREW
GSU Crew's 2016 Spring season came to a close this weekend as we competed in Oak Ridge, TN at the SIRA Championship Regatta. The day opened with time trials, where our WV4+ posted a time of 7:06.56, which qualified them for the B heat of the semifinals, our MN4+ posted a time of 7:04.09, which qualified them for the D heat of the lower finals, and our MV4+ posted a time of 7:20.15, which qualified them for the E heat of the lower finals. During the afternoon races, the WV4+ posted a time of 8:34.14, which placed second in their heat and qualified them for the A heat of the Grand Final on Sunday, the MN4+ posted a time of 8:21.12, and the MV4+ posted a time of 8:33.44.
In the Grand Final on Sunday, the WV4+ posted a time of 8:17.72, giving them a fifth place finish in their championship heat.
GSU Crew is happy to close its 2016 Spring season season on a successful note. We are very proud of all of the work that was put in by our competitors this season and the results that it produced and are exited to begin summer training to prepare for the 2016 Fall season!
GSU Crew made a trip to Guntersville, AL this weekend to compete with crews from LSU, Berry, and Samford in a friendly scrimmage to prepare for SIRA the following weekend. Unfortunately, weather conditions in Guntersville brewed winds that made conditions on the race course unsafe to row. Leadership within the crews in attendance decided to make the best of a bad situation and rent out the use of a local workout facility with access to ERGs and hold a relay-based ERG sprint race for each scheduled race. At the end of all races GSU Crew left with a First Place finish in the Mixed 4+ and MV4+, Second in the WV4+, and Third in the MV4+. Once all scheduled races were complete, the crews decided to also field a coxswain race with four coxswains per team completing a 1000 meter relay; GSU Crew took home second in this event as well. We look forward to closing out our season next weekend at the SIRA Championship Regatta!
GSU Crew entered the weekend of the Clemson Sprints hoping to race a WV4+, MN4+, and a Mixed 8+; however, the weather at Lake Hartwell did not agree with the Panthers' plans. Unfortunately, high winds created conditions on the water that led officials to cancel all afternoon races. This left the MN4+ and Mixed 8+ unable to compete. Before the conditions were deemed unsafe to row, however, the WV4+ competed and were able to place 4th in their heat with a total time of 9:02.20. GSU Crew is proud of its women and looks forward to competing next weekend in a Southeastern scrimmage!
